Insurance Requirements

Renters are required to have collision damage coverage for the rental car as well as the state minimum of liability coverage. If proof of insurance is not provided, the renter will be required to purchase insurance from Rugged Rental.

- Renter Collision Protection@ $25/day
- Supplemental Liability Insurance @ $10/day

Both are required to provide the necessary coverage.

Rugged Rental is not qualified to evaluate the adequacy of the renters existing coverage - therefore the renter should examine his or her credit card protections, automobile insurance policies or other sources of coverage that may duplicate the insurance options we offer prior to arrival at our office.


Hours of Operation

The Salt Lake Int'l Airport location is open Mon-Sat from 8 AM to 6 PM. We offer after hours and Sunday service by appointment only for a nominal surcharge.

The Salt Lake City (UT) local office is open Mon-Sat from 8 AM to 6 PM. We offer after hours and Sunday service by appointment only for a nominal surcharge.

The Layton (UT) local office is open Mon-Sat from 10 AM to 7 PM. We offer after hours and Sunday service by appointment only for a nominal surcharge.


Shuttle Service

Salt Lake City Airport Location:
Shuttle service is offered to and from the Salt Lake International Airport. Please collect all of your luggage at baggage claim. Then call 801-977-9111 to request a shuttle pick up. Go across the sky bridge located across from baggage claim #6. Proceed straight thru the car rental lobby continuing across the sky bridge. At the end of the bridge, go out the glass doors and down the escalator or elevators. Once in the parking garage on ground level, follow the painted sidewalk heading to the right. Go past the Avis/Payless area until you get to the shuttle stop at the west end of the garage. There is a sign stating Off-Site Shuttles. We will pick you up in a silver van clearly marked as Rugged Rental & ACE Rent-A-Car.

Salt Lake City Local Office:
Shuttle service is offered to and from downtown Salt Lake City hotels and other hotels and businesses within a 10 mile radius of our office. Please call 801-977-9111 to request a shuttle.

We are not able to pick up customers at the SLC International Airport for reservations made at our local offices. If airport shuttle service is needed, please make a reservation for our Salt Lake City Airport location.

Layton Local Office:
No Shuttle Service is Offered


Local Renters

Local Renters are required to show proof of residency as well as proof of insurance. If Rugged Rental insurance is purchased this satisfies the insurance requirement.

Local Renters must possess a valid permanent drivers license. (Temporary licenses are not accepted)

Local Renters may not leave their personal vehicles at Rugged Rental during the duration of their rental.


Rental Day Description

One rental day is defined as a 24 hour period from the time of vehicle pick up.

Renters who do not return their rental vehicle within a 2 hour (grace period) of the actual time of day the vehicle was picked up will incur additional charges.


Mileage

Every vehicle rented comes with 200 miles per day included in the price based on the daily and weekly rates.

The monthly rate includes 3,000 miles per month.

We do not offer unlimited mileage. Sorry, we can not make exceptions.


Off Road Policy

Driving of all rental vehicles is limited to improved roads only. This is described as all paved roads, graded dirt roads, or well maintained easy to moderate trails. Off road use of any kind is prohibited as well as rock crawling or driving on difficult trails.


Credit / Debit Cards

A major Credit or Debit Card in the name of the renter is required for all rentals. There must be credit available on the card used for the amount of the rental plus an additional $500 security hold.

Credit card information is taken up front to guarantee the reservation. Nothing is charged on the card until the vehicle is picked up. At that time the amount of the rental will be charged plus the security deposit of $500.

Any Credit or Debit card used to pay for a rental must be presented at the rental counter in person by the named card holder.

If the card holder will not be present at the rental counter, a credit card authorization form may be filled out and faxed or e-mailed in prior to the rental. This allows another party to pickup the vehicle instead of the card holder.

Debit Cards are not accepted for long term rentals. (Daily/Weekly rentals only)


Security Hold

A $500 security hold is required on all rentals. Security holds are taken at the time of vehicle pickup. Nothing is charged at the time of the reservation.

The security hold is released at the time of vehicle return if there are no additional charges due. (i.e. Extra rental days, fuel, over miles, vehicle damage, etc...)

Please note: If a Debit card is used, the $500 security hold may take 5-7 business days after the rental ends to be cleared by your bank.


Winter Driving

All of our vehicles are equipped with ALL SEASON tires. In extreme winter conditions 4WD or AWD may be required.

Customers are advised that some canyon roads in Utah require 4WD or AWD on winter storm days.

WE DO NOT allow chains on our vehicles.


Ski Racks

Ski racks are available for rent on the following vehicles:

Dodge Grand Caravan, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Durango, & Chevy Suburban.


Towing

Towing is allowed on all Trucks and Suburbans and some of our 15-Passenger Vans. Trailer weight must be within vehicle towing limit.

We DO NOT allow interstate towing/hauling for commercial purposes. Our trucks are not registered for this purpose.

Electric brake controllers are factory installed on all of our rental trucks.


Cancellation

If you need to cancel your reservation, please notify us at least 72 hours in advance. For cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance there will be one day charge equal to the rental of the vehicle reserved.

24 hours notice is required for early returns.


Age Requirements

Minimum Age: 21


Additional Drivers

There is a $5/day charge for each additional driver.


Driving Area

Restricted to the United States West of the Mississipi River and Western Canada. Mileage restrictions apply. Absolutely NO travel to Mexico.


Fuel Policy

Vehicles must be returned with the fuel tank: As It Left
Fuel will be charged at 8.00 gallons

Cash deposits are not accepted.

Collision Insurance for the rental vehicle. Covers the rental vehicle for up to $20,000 in damages after a $250 deductible per incident. Cost is $25/day. Rugged Rental is not qualified to evaluate the adequacy of the renters existing coverage - therefore the renter should examine his or her credit card protections, automobile insurance policies or other sources of coverage that may duplicate the protection provided by RCP prior to arrival at our office.

This Supplement Liability Insurance policy is secondary to the renters personal liability insurance and provides up to $1,000,000 in additional liability protection to pay for cars and/or objects you may hit and injuries you may cause. There is no deductible for this coverage. Cost is $10/day. Rugged Rental is not qualified to evaluate the adequacy of the renters existing coverage - therefore the renter should examine his or her credit card protections, automobile insurance policies or other sources of coverage that may duplicate the protection provided by SLI prior to arrival at our office.
Late Night After Hours Arrivals (10 PM - 8 AM) 20.00 fixed
Our office is closed at 6 PM (Mon-Fri) & 5 PM (Sat). However, we do allow after hours appointments for a $40 fee up until 10 PM. This fee is automatically added to your reservation. Anything after 10 PM until 8 AM will be charged an additional $20. This charge covers an employee opening our office specifically for you, running the airport shuttle service, and taking care of your vehicle checkout at such a late hour.
Independence Day Arrivals 75.00 fixed
Vehicles picked up on Independence Day are charged a $75 fee as we are closed on this holiday so that our employees can spend the day with their families. This charge covers an employee opening our office specifically for you, running the airport shuttle service, and taking care of your vehicle checkout.
Thanksgiving Day Arrivals 75.00 fixed

Cancelation Policy

It is requested that cancellations be made 72 hours in advance. Cancellations or early returns made less than 24 hours in advance will be charged a fee equal to one day's rental on the selected vehicle. If you have reserved 3+ rental vehicles for the same time frame, 30 days' notice from your pick-up time is required to receive a full refund on the 50% deposit taken upon booking.


Insurance and Coverage
